Media Contact: Michele Ritter Fawcett Memorial Hospital Introduces 3D Vision SystemPort Charlotte, FL (July 25, 2006) -- Fawcett Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce the addition of a new three-dimensional vision system to perform laproscopic surgeries; complex, minimally invasive procedures. While minimally invasive surgery is improving patient outcomes across a growing spectrum of complex surgical procedures, three-dimensional visualization aids surgeons in the precise maneuvers necessary to perform these surgeries. Dr. Arvind Sharma, a Urologist at Fawcett Memorial Hospital, equipped with Vikings EndoSite 3Di Digital Vision System, now has 3D visualization, depth perception and a level of comfort not available with traditional two-dimensional vision systems. The EndoSite significantly enhances the surgical experience, said Dr. Sharma. Using the EndoSite 3Di, we are working with greater precision and comfort to ensure that patients receive the best care while making a quick and complication-free recovery. Also unique to the EndoSite 3Di is the patented Head Mounted Display (HMD), a highly specialized headpiece that allows members of the surgical team to access high-resolution, stereoscopic images in their natural line of sight. Ergonomically designed, the HMD provides unmatched comfort, and significantly reduces surgical fatigue caused by standard vision systems. With the use of the unique Head-Mounted Display unit, surgeons are able to continuously focus on the surgical field and this helps reduce the fatigue associated with turning or moving to view a standard monitor, said A.N. Aditya, research analyst with Frost & Sullivan, a market consulting firm that recognized the Viking System earlier this year with their Technology & Innovation Award. The success of the surgical procedure is directly linked to the clarity and resolution of the vision systems themselves. Fawcett Memorial Hospital is pleased to be the first hospital in the area to offer this technology to its patients. The Viking EndoSite 3Di will allow Fawcetts surgeons to become more effective, since their vision during procedures will be more natural in three dimensions. Additional benefits to the patients include faster surgery time, increased surgical accuracy, fewer complications, and less patient blood loss.
